Top tips on clearing out and cleaning up your shed

Spring is on the way, which means it’s time for a good old spring clean. But does it fill you with dread – the thought of cleaning and clearing out your garden shed? Just because a shed may be out of sight, it doesn’t mean that it should be out of mind.

Get a cleaning plan in place so that you can make the most of your storage space in 2018. Don’t know where to start? Well, don’t worry as we have some handy little tips to help you out.

Pile it up

Pile It Up

Start off by taking everything out of your shed to see exactly how much you’ve got stuffed in there. Plus, this step is essential to be able to give the shed a clean. Clean up spills on the floor and dust away any cobwebs above doors, windows and in the corners of the shed. Make sure you give the floor a good sweep too – if the shed has been used to store bikes or outdoor furniture, then the odds are it will be full of stray leaves, little stones and dirt. Don’t forget to wash the shed windows too – wipe them down with a bit of window cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

Sort your stuff

Sort Your StuffNow that the shed is clean and ready to use again, it’s time to organise the clutter. If you find there’s stuff in your shed that you haven’t used in donkey's years then throw it away or give it to a charity shop. There’s no point keeping stuff that you don’t really need or use. Have a bag just for trash too, as there’s no doubt you’ll find some rubbish in there or broken pots. When you’ve got rid of all the stuff you don’t want, you can start to return everything you do want back to the shed.

Storage SolutionsStorage solutions

Storage boxes are amazing and you can get sets that stack these days too. They’re a great way to keep all your tools, paintbrushes, garden gloves and other small objects in one place without taking up too much floor space. Hooks and shelves are a great way to get more out of your shed space too. Get a simple wall mount for your bikes too so that they’re out of the way.

So there we have it – our top tips for sorting your shed. It will take a bit of time and effort but we promise it will be worth it. If you want to upgrade your existing shed then feel free to give our friendly team a call on 01254 491632.
